Representative of past tragedy, the salvage sub searches for the ship sunk long ago, and the mysterious cause for losing something once admired, invested in, and depended on. The mermaid holds a skull symbolizing the mysterious force that took someone loved and continues to hide the answers long after. The octopus is apathetic, disturbance unwanted, perhaps withholding or obstructing answers, like so many near to those who suffer loss. The beautiful sunset is the future we should turn to, having abandoned the search, accepting what we don't understand, and moving on. My passions and professional work are in art and science. On the science side of life, I developed significant new technologies in the fields of sensors, spectroscopy, and imaging instruments.
